Sgt. Sunshine

There is very little if anything online about the SFPD Sergeant known as Sgt. Sunshine.  There is a rock group by that name.

With the help of the San Francisco History Center at the SF Public Library Main branch, we were able to find out that his name was Sgt. Richard R. Burgess and that one of the many newspaper stories about him was a page 1 column 1 story printed in the Chronicle for Feb. 10, 1969.

The card file indicates that ultimately he was sentenced to nine months in jail.

I met him and his wife in 1975 in a group known as Agni Yoga in SF. His wife we called “Princess”. I remember he lived in Oregon at the time on a ranch near Roseburg. I heard the entire story told to me by him!!!! I loved it! His best friend at the time was my ex hubby Bill Boyd. Awesome stories of their lives!
